The ACVV Poplarlaan was established in 1959, with one social worker and one social auxiliary worker, working under the auspices of the ACVV Head Office, Cape Town, and a Management Committee in Port Elizabeth. At that time, their services focused on poverty alleviation.Â

Core Business
Today, 64 years later, the ACVV POPLARLAAN is a designated CHILD PROTECTION ORGANISATION, employing one registered social worker and one social auxiliary worker. Service delivery includes statutory work, prevention and early intervention, reunification, counselling and are aimed at the social upliftment, support and capacity building of the most vulnerable individuals and high risk families. The improvement of basic living standards and the restoration of human dignity are a high priority. Statutory services include foster care supervision, reunification and aftercare services and form an integral part of services, to children at risk.

Dolly Vermaak Service Centre
The Service Centre has been in existence for 35 years. 112 older persons are members of the centre.
